EDMUND PEVENSIE - THIS ISN'T A TRAGIC LOVE SONG
Title: This Isn't A Tragic Love Song
Fandom/Character: NARNIA; Edmund Pevensie
Notes: Written for the prompt "crowns" @ the 100foraslan challenge community.
Summary: He plays it to forget. Too bad Edmund can't (really) play.

Someone’s playing in the hall. An aching symphony.

Trepidation – rather, inexperience – fills the air. Like lucid dreaming, it’s an undeniable thing.

There are some notes that are unsympathetic amidst the chorus. Awkward hitches in an, otherwise, steady rhythm. A dip out of what should be fluidity.

Edmund is a knight. He is a king. A traitor. A brother. He is not used to playing torrid, love wrought, compositions that many have toiled endlessly to accomplish.

So, he doesn’t.

He plays a simple melody. Lets fingers of calloused propensity dance over worn keys like a lover’s gentle touch that is learning at first, experienced after the third.

A simple melody, with undertones that balk at simplicity.

Like a virginal lover, Edmund is awkward in the beginning. He stumbles over smooth notes. Ruins, what could be an, amazing love song. It’s not a love song. It’s a melody. A song of thought and just dreaming.

His crown is on the wood of the piano. Stays there as the sun catches it through open windows.

Edmund doesn’t need to look to know it’s there. There is enough on his mind to sort. He plays like he means it. Pours his entire being into the music. With the exact attention he would give the hilt of his sword.

Edmund rolls fingers down, presses soft, then hard. A periodical step in beat. He closes his eyes, closes his heart. Plays of Turkish Delight and crowned glories. Of what was; what is now.

His crown weighs heavy on the piano top, shines a sheen as it catches sun, like it’s a smiling thing that means well. It reminds him of his mistake.

Unnecessary. Edmund thinks it’s all a bit hard to forget, really. He doesn’t need visuals.

Just music. It’s more than tragic enough for him.

NOTE: Song in mind? Regina Spektor - The Call. Simple, tragic if you think about it, perfect for Edmund, and this. Appropriate. Enjoy!

Also, V-VOTING TIME, kids! Help out, please!

Poor Edmund! He needs some loving, instead of angsting there alone. *pats*

A really beautiful text and soft music does fit Edmund.
